INDIGO PRINTS – AN OLD BUT BEAUTIFUL AFRICAN ART FORM

While researching designs the other day I came across this beautiful textile art form known as INDIGO an African print form. Why am I excited about this ?  mainly    as  not only is it colourful but also a  unique and modern print   seen  and worn today 170 years  after it was first designs.

A Dutch textile designer named Vlisco originated the wax printing technique called ‘ WAX HOLLANDAIS’ which is a unique process of fabric creation finished by hand.

I have attached some pictures of some of these designs which I are  used by fashion houses today. As you will see some of the fabrics show exquisite designs  in  eyecatching vibrant colours which would be gorgeous in scarf designs today Perhaps I should design a series of African prints ?   The moral of the story is that all things old are often the best and are very inspirational.
